Air Traffic Controller Jobs
Not all applicants who have met the eligibility qualifications and requirements for air traffic controlling are guaranteed air traffic controller jobs with the Federal Aviation Administration. Air traffic controlling positions are in high demand because the air traffic controller salary pays well, includes great benefits and early retirement. The FAA does not guarantee anyone even if they have met all eligibility requirements and qualifications for the open positions available.
After the Federal aviation administration establishes which applicants have successfully satisfied all qualification and eligibility requirements they then place the names of those qualified prospects on a referral list, as well as position all of them into groups (which will be explained in more detail below).
Referral lists contain the names of qualified eligible applicants from which potential job selections are made. The list is divided up into two groups which are the “well qualified” and “qualified” groups. The one group excluded from this list is the veterans group, which in many instances the individuals in this group would be selected over either of the other groups mentioned.
If you have achieved a sore of 70-84.9 on the Federal Aviation Administration pre-employment test then you would be considered “qualified”. For those that have scored 85 and above you would fall into the group of “well-qualified”. For candidates that were not required to take the FAA pre-employment exam, they are placed into either group based on existing criteria regarding their skills, abilities and knowledge.

When you are selected for an air traffic controller position your geographic personal preferences will be taken into consideration; however the needs at the FAA facilities will ultimately determine where you will probably end up being stationed. The top concern for the FAA is making sure the airways are safe, and that means placing staff at locations which qualified air traffic controllers are needed.
If you do decline an air traffic controller position you can be considered for another position in the future. You may apply to any air traffic controller jobs when announcements are made until you have reached the point of no longer being eligible.
